Advanced options

Search for: Any password, User password or Owner password. Select this option to instruct the program which password to search for (About PDF encryption for more details).

Possible scenarios:

A file is not protected. It doesn't matter what you select: when you try to run the attack, the program will note you that it is nothing to do.

A file has only the "owner" password. You'll get a notification message that the file can be decrypted instantly, but you can still search for the original password. Select to search for Owner password only; you can also search for Any password, but the speed will be lower.

Your file has matching "user" and "owner" passwords. The best solution is to search for the User password only, as this is the faster attack.

Both "user" and "owner" passwords are set, but they're different. You can search for any of them, or for both at the same time. Please keep in mind that searching for the User password is the fastest, while attacking the Owner password is almost two time slower. Note that there might be a chance that one of these passwords is shorter/simpler than the other. We recommend to set Any password first (dictionary attack, followed by the brute-force attack limited to 5 characters), and then the User password in extended range (e.g. up to 7 chars).

Mask symbol: used for the Mask attack.

Use code optimized for: (Non-MMX processors / Intel PII/PIII/Celeron / AMD Athlon / Intel P4 SSE2 / Intel Core/Core2): force APDFPR to use code optimized for the selected CPU. Note that the program will detect your CPU and select optimizations automatically. This option overrides automatic selection.

GPU Manager: calls GPU Manager (separate application installed with APDFPR) that allows to set which graphic processors the program can use to run the attack for hardware acceleration. The list of compatible video cards is available at NVIDIA web site. Please note that GPU acceleration is available only for PDF files with 256-bit AES encryption.
