View modes and filters
Previous  Top  Next

The main program window is divided in the two parts (panes), where the left one contains the list of computers that have been scanned, and the right one contains information about all security patches installed (or missing) on the computer that is currently selected in the left pane.

The left pane is organized as a 'tree' that can be viewed in two modes: by computer (select View | By computer menu item) or by date (View | By date, respectively); the Date is the date/time when the given computer has been scanned. In first case, the scans database is shown as follows:

Date
Domain
Computer
Product

And in By date mode:

Domain
Computer
Date
Product

When Computer or Product is selected at the left, the right pane reflects the list of patches available for all supported Microsoft products for the given computer, or for particular product selected. By using the View | Filters menu command (or Filter button on the tool bar), you can filter the patches by Severity and Status (see below).

You can use the View | View mode menu item (or View mode button on the tool bar) to switch between Details, List and Icons modes (like in Windows Explorer); the Details mode is the most informative one, and shows the following information for the patches:

Bulletin

This is the Microsoft security bulletin number; usually looks like MSXX-XXX (where X's are the digits), or Missing service pack if there is no security bulletin, but the latest security patch for particular Microsoft product is not installed. The link to the bulletin itself is located in Details window for the given patch (accessible from popup menu) and looks like:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MSXX-XXX.mspx

For example, the bulletin MS05-046 is located at:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS05-046.mspx
