Password storage types

Typically, Microsoft Outlook Express stores all passwords encrypted in the system's Protected Storage, in other Registry areas, or in a special set of credentials files oh the disk. In rare cases, some passwords may not be displayed correctly. The following Password Storage Types table will help you troubleshooting the issue.

 

PS

Password is successfully retrieved and stored in еру Protected Storage.

OL

Password is successfully retrieved and stored in еру system Registry using a legacy weak encryption algorithm.

O97

Outlook 97; password is stored with MAPI.

NP

Password not found in the Protected Storage. In some cases it indicates that the user name is used as a password, or the Protected Storage subsystem is damaged.

UN

Unknown Password Storage Type. Can mean an unsupported version of Outlook Express, or damaged system Registry.

ER

Error retrieving the password.

NR

Password not retrieved. Not enough privileges to unlock the Protected Storage, or the Protected Storage is not installed on the computer.

NO

Password for this account is missing.

WM

Windows Mail

WLM

Windows Live Mail
