Mail server emulator (auto mode)

If you have an email client that is not supported directly by AMBPR,  you can obtaining the password with a the different approach. The Mail server emulator implements a man-in-the-middle attack to intercept the password while the email client authenticates a connection.

In the best case scenario, all you have to do is press the Connect button. The program will emulate both POP3 and IMAP4 servers simultaneously. Launch your email client (if it was already running, you may need to restart it), and perform the send/receive operation. Note that no mail will be received because the client will connect to AMBPR instead of the actual mail server. Go back to AMBPR, and the login and password information for POP3 and IMAP accounts should be displayed.

Some limitations apply. First, AMBPR needs to know the addresses of the mail servers the email client attempts to connect to. While it makes an attempt to retrieve the list of mail servers automatically, the automatic detection may fail for some clients. If a particular mail server is not on the list, press Add server to manually add it. Second, you can add servers either by name or by IP address. However, if you use the IP address, the emulation will work properly only if the IP can be resolved to the name.

Please also note that this method works for regular authentication only. Some authentication methods (e.g. MD5 APOP) do not pass the password to the server at all, and so the password cannot be captured.

By default, AMBPR uses port 110 for POP3 and port 143 for IMAP4. If your email clients uses different port settings, you will have to change them in AMBPR Options.
