Supported and unsupported formats

The following formats are supported:

•Word®/Excel® 97/2000 documents encrypted with password for opening

•Word®/Excel® XP/2003 saved as Office 97/2000 Compatible, encrypted with password for opening

The following Word® and Excel® files are not supported:

•Files without File open protection, (e.g. File modify protection, document/workbook protection, VBA passwords).

•Files created in Office 95 and older versions

•Files created in Office XP/2003 that use any type of encryption other than Office 97/2000 Compatible

•Files created in Office 2007

•Files created on a computer with French (Standard) locale set in Control Panel > Regional Settings. At the time, RC4 encryption was banned in France, and Office 97/2000/XP could only use weak encryption.

If a file is not supported, use Advanced Office Password Recovery instead. The tool supports all file types listed above with brute-force and dictionary attacks.
