Outlook® Password Storage Types

Microsoft® Outlook® stores account passwords in the Protected Storage. The passwords are stored encrypted in the system Registry. In some cases, AOPR may throw an error or display wrong passwords. This may happen if the system Registry is damaged or you do not have sufficient privileges to access some keys in the Registry, or the Protected Storage subsystem is not installed on your computer. Checking for password storage types may help identify the root cause of the issue. Available password storage types:

PS - Password successfully retrieved and stored in Protected Storage.
O3 -Password stored in the Windows Registry by Outlook® 2003.
OL -Password successfully retrieved and stored in the Registry using a weak encryption algorithm.
NP -Password not found in Protected Storage. In some cases it indicates that the user name is used as password, or that the Protected Storage subsystem is damaged.
UN -Unknown Password Storage Type. You may use a version of Outlook® that is not supported by AOPR, or the Registry is damaged.
ER -Error retrieving the password.
NR -Password was not retrieved. You do not have enough rights to unlock Protected Storage, or Protected Storage is not installed on the computer.
NO -Password for this account is missing.

If the storage type is "UN", "ER" or "NR", please send your Debug Log to Elcomsoft Technical Support.
